Southampton General Hospital said that the fire, which broke out in the endoscopy, west wing at 05:30hours on the 01/02/2026 which was contained and under control once emergency services had got to the scene.
Southampton General Hospital has confirmed that no one had been injured and those in affected areas were evacuated promptly to safer areas around the hospital. It has been confirmed about 200 patients had been evacuated during this time.
Patients have been moved to safe areas including inside of the main entrance of the hospital. Patients could be seen in their beds in the lobby, which is usually filled with members of the public.
Anyone attending the Southampton General Hospital has been advised to stay away from the hospital and all planned outpatient appointments on Sunday (01/02/2026) have been cancelled.
Southampton General Hospital had said that its Emergency department will be turning away and diverting patients unless their condition was life threatening.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that more than 110 firefighters attended the fire. At around 10:00 hours the fire was under control however crews remained on scene to “dampen down”.
At 11:00, several fire engines and an incident response unit were still present outside the Coxford Road entrance, with the smell of smoke still hanging in the air.
Emergency services have closed surrounding roads.
The hospital has asked anyone requiring medical attention to use other services in the community, including urgent treatment centres at the Royal South Hants Hospital in Southampton or at Lymington New Forest Hospital.
